It’s ok to break the law if the Government asks you to — Senate Gives immunity to Telecoms

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Read all about it: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080709/ap_on_bi_ge/terrorist_surveillance

My take away from this is that it’s ok for you to break the law if the government asks you to.  Afterall, When Libby broke the law, Bush just pardoned him.  When the Telecom companies broke the law by illegally spying on their customers, the Congress just rubber stamps a law saying, “nada problem.”

Even though 99% of Congress has ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what they are providing immunity FOR, it still passed!!  Unbelievable.

Thank you to Senator Feingold and Senator Specter, true patriots who will redeemed by history.

Shame of Senator Obama for backing away from his promise to resist Telecom Immunity.  And shame on the Bush Administration for making a mockery of the U.S. Constitution.  Shame on the Democratic Congress for allowing this to happen.

It’s a shameful day for America when the rule of law is shredded.

Thanks to the New York Times for having the courage to break the story, and to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (www.eff.org) for promising to challenge the constituationality of this provision.  I remain a pround subscriber to the NY Times and a monthly financial supporter of the EFF.

Hey, our rights are important. We can’t just roll over and let this happen.

Fox “News” Nazi’s Attack Michelle Obama

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Fox News has not been successful smearing Barack Obama, so they’re focusing on the lesser well-known Michelle Obama.   Its simply outrageous, as you can see from the video below.

Obama in his own words

Monday, July 7th, 2008

I had a chance to attend a small rally for Obama in Fargo ND, on July 3. It was my first time seeing Obama in person, and I was not disappointed. Here are some clips from the rally, where Obama explains how America must treat its men and women who serve in our military, and their famlies.

Thoughts on Barak’s victory, and the Rage of the Clintonistas

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

It’s over.

Barak Hussein Obama has clinched the Democratic nomination for President of the United States of America. Congratulations, Barak.

Instead of moving to heal her party, Clinton chose to immediately place intense pressure on Barak through the media and party hacks to choose her as his running mate.  Clinton speaks of  gaining “respect” for her “18 million” followers, all the while wielding them like a weapon against the party.

Meanwhile, Obama has consistently given Clinton nothing but respect, sweetie!  His June 2 speech in St Paul, MN was full of kind words and respect for Clinton. But Clinton doesn’t realize she must give it to get it.

Clinton has been, and continues to be incredibly disrespectful of Obama and his supporters.  The public pressure they are now attempting to lay on Obama is horrendously disrespectful.  All the while she is publicly crying out for the Veep spot, she has yet to even acknowledge Obama’s victory.

Unless a respectful Clinton moves immediately to heal the Democratic party, Obama will not have her as his running mate.

During this campaign I have come to understand this about Obama: he will not be bullied.

Clinton missed her moment last night to heal the party, and to make herself a serious candidate for vice president.  Instead, she choose to use the stage to issue veiled threats like she was a schoolyard bully.

Now, with each hour that passes, what Clinton will do or not do becomes less and less important.  The race is now quickly moving on without Clinton, and her influence is waning fast.

I am fully confident that Obama will do what needs to be done to win this election. Obama has shown us all that he is smart, resiliant, a strong leader, and capable of making good decisions. If Obama wants Clinton as his running mate, then it shall be so because it is good for America.  If not, and he chooses someone like Jim Web or John Edwards, then I will happily accept that decision as well.

What about those angry Clintonista’s who say they will slash and burn the Obama campaign with their votes?  Will they truly be so petty as to vote for McCain or stay home, simply because their team lost?

First, I have to believe that deep inside, these supporters are true Democrats, and not cultish followers of Clinton. If I am wrong, and such behavior does come to pass, and the uneducated voters in West Virginia who may have trouble voting for a “black man” cause America to miss this amazing historic opportunity to elect a great leader, then I can truly say with all honesty that this will be the first time in my adult life that I am truly ashamed of my country.

President Clinton in South Dakota: I won’t support Obama’s Candidacy

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Bill Clinton, speaking in Milbank South Dakota today, said, “I want to say also that this may be the last day I’m ever involved in a campaign of this kind (i.e., a presidential campaign).”

Reading between the lines, which is what you always have to do with The Clintons,  here’s what I hear him say: “If Hillary doesn’t get the nomination, then I won’t support Barak Obama’s presidential campaign. He’s on his own.”  You could also infer that Clinton would turn his back on the Democratic party, since this will be the last time that he is “EVER” involved in a campaign like this.

The view from Up North

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

My liberal buddy Jason from Up North in Canada called today.  He’s a Clinton backer. He thinks Obama is not long on details.

I tried to explain that after 8 years of being completely uninspired by Bush that Obama’s lofty visioning exercise is exactly what I (and many other Americans) needed to get me back in the political saddle. I think Jason feels that Clinton is a known quantity, and Canadians always seemed to like the Clintons.

My view is that American can do better than to recycle the good ol’ days of the Clinton administration. I’m ready for a break with the past. I am ready for woman President, don’t slap me as a misogynist. Nothing against Hillary, except that she’s married to Bill. No, I can’t separate the two.    Hill would bring in a plethora of old Clinton administrators; one only need to look at her campaign staff and advisors to understand this.  With Clinton, we’ve been there, done that. Time to move on.

America needs a real change, change we can believe in.  America needs a new vision. America needs Obama.  What Canada needs, I could give a shit (just kidding Jason).

Jason frets that McCain is getting lots of “positive” spin up in Canada from all of his personal appearances. He notes that McCain actually seems likeable.

Superdelegates, why are you letting this drag on? Pick the winner and lets get on with it.  Time is awastin’.

But just look at what Obama has done. He has activated millions of new voters. He has shown that he can raise money by the hundreds of millions, not from giant donars, but from tiny little people. That is grassroots support that Clinton has not been able to build in her 30 years.  Clinton and McCain represent yesteryear politics.  Obama is the future, and the future is now.

Get used to it, Jason! ;-)

John Edwards to endorse Obama. Possible VP running mate?

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

The political blogosphere is anticipating John Edward’s endorsement of Barak Obama.  Despite Edward’s earlier statement indicating that he was not interested in being a VP candidate, pundits are now making a compelling case for Edward’s as Obama’s VP running mate.  Read about it here

Having Edwards as a ‘mate could be a shrewd move by Obama, who has been struggling with the dumb redneck vote. In addition, in early contest canvassing, Edwards was routinely shown to be the most electable candidate in the Democratic field.

We wrote earlier about the Moderate Liberal Dream Ticket being Edwards/Obama.  Either way you slice, it would still be a great ticket.

Presumably, Edward’s endorsement will come with the 18 delegates he earned in IA and NH, inching Obama that must closer to the magic number of delegates necessary to clinch the nomination.

It’s about time, John!  Welcome back.

The Disappointment of John Edwards

Monday, May 5th, 2008

We started the year as ardent supporters of John Edwards and his populist message of two Americas.  At the time, Edwards seemed to us to be the embodiment of the concern for the middle class.  When Edwards dropped out of the race, his supporters immediately surged to the Obama campaign, instantly tightening the race between Clinton and Obama.  Clearly, Edward’s supporters saw the similarities with Obama and they moved their support and dollars to Obama campaign.

At the time, I lamented but lauded Edwards dropping out of the race. But since then, I have been consistently disappointed by John Edward’s silence in this race.  Of course, I don’t have insight to what is taking place behind the scenes.  Perhaps promises have been made by either or both of the remaining candidates so that it is in Edwards’ “interests” to remain silent.

But as a candidate whose campaign was about not playing those sort of political games, his silence is an excruciating disappointment to his supporters.  When “Obama for America” called looking for money a month ago and dropped Edwards’ name, I was hopeful.  But since then, nothing but disappointment.

There was no Edwards endorsement for Obama on the Jay Leno show.

There is no Edwards endorsement on the eve of the North Carolina primary.

Meanwhile, Edwards’ crucial 18 delegates remain in limbo, and the Democratic race continues to drag onwards and downwards.

Unless we hear from Edwards soon, I will have to write him off as just another disappointing opportunist politician.   I had such high hopes for Edwards, but each day he allows this campaign mess continue without taking a stand, my respect for him wanes.
