Sen. Kyl’s dishonest grandstanding on the economy.

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Did you read Sen. Jon Kyl’s remarks in the National Review? Kyl smugly predicts the end of the tax cuts for the rich passed by Republicans in 2001 and 2003, and the end of American prosperity. Blame it all those nasty Democrats, according to Kyl.

Even while he spews kudos all over the Republican party, Kyl conveniently ignores the big hairy 800 lb. gorilla sitting on his lap: the national debt.

With little fanfare, the U.S. National Debt clock is set to trip over the $9 trillion.

In 2000, the U.S. debt was at about $5.7 trillion. Thanks to six years of Republican mismanagement of the nation’s finances, that figure is up more than 50% today. What we are really witnessing to day is the fact that it is possible to one helluva tax cutting party, even while waging war, if you steal your children money.  $3.6 trillion buys a booming economy.

Long after this horrible administration has left office, our children and grand children and great-grand children will be stuck paying the interest on this gigantic debt.

No doubt as this house of cards comes tumbling around our kids some day, a long-retired and senile Senator Kyl will yearn for the good ol’ days when everything was just peachy, thanks to the Republican party.  He doesn’t get it now, and it he won’t get it then: this prosperity is no thanks to the Republican party, but rather, thanks to your children and the yet-to-be-born, for it is they who will bear the cost of the Republican party’s tax cuts for the rich, at the cost of their own standard of living.

If the Republican Party, typified by Senator Kyl,  had been forced to raise taxes to pay-as-you-go for their Big Government activities and war waging, Americans would have been up in arms.  But even as the Republican’s big Government slowly steals from our kids to finance itself, the Senator claims “higher than expected tax revenues,” the truth is that those revenues fall far short of funding Bush’s spending spree.

Senator Kyl, shame on you. If you want to take credit for this “booming” economy, then also take credit for the Debt and all that it foreshadows for our kids.

A Nation Powered by Solar and Wind

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Hi,

We have the best opportunity we’ve ever had to get this country off of polluting energy like oil and coal and onto real clean alternatives. This will not only help curb the climate crisis, but save consumers money and create new jobs. Seems like a slam dunk, right?

But some in Congress are still willing to do the bidding of the oil and coal industry and vote down bills that would undercut their stranglehold on our economy. We need to tell Congress now to do what’s right for the American people, not continue business-as-usual.

I signed a petition urging Congress to vote for to give solar and wind the support they need to assure a clean energy future. Can you join me at the link below?

Thanks!

Gonzales is finished. Expect Bush to pardon.

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Alberto Gonzales is effectively finished as Attorney General, having lost the confidence of both Democrats and Republicans for his incredules testimony under oath.

What is Gonazales hiding?  The truth.

Who is Gonzales protecting?  The President.

As we saw with Scooter Libby, expect Bush to protect himself with an eventual blanket pardon for Alberto Gonzales.

Expect Gonzales to resign soon for “personal reasons,” such as to “spend more time with his family.”

Just as Gonzales has lost the confidence of Congress, Bush has lost the confidence of the American people. We can not trust this President. He has a big secret which, eventually, will come out.

Sen. Russ Feingold to ask the Senate to consider a pair of censure resolutions

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

“Censure is about holding the administration accountable,” says Feingold. “Congress needs to formally condemn the President and members of the administration for misconduct before and during the Iraq war, and for undermining the rule of law at home. Censure is not a cure for the devastating toll this administration’s actions have taken on this country. But when future generations look back at the terrible misconduct of this administration, they need to see that a co-equal branch of government stood up and held to account those who violated the principles on which this nation was founded.”

Although the decision to impeach resides with the House, Sen. Feingold’s censure resolution in the U.S. Senate is appropriate, and yet more evidence of the growing strength of the movement to check the abuse of power excercised by Bush and Cheney in office, and proof the strength of the impeachment movement.

FreeLiberal’s comments on Bush impeachment right on the mark.

Friday, July 20th, 2007

“There are people who will tell you impeachment is not what this country needs right now. I disagree. I think it’s exactly what this country needs right now while there’s still time to fire this president. If this were about his last 18 months in office, I’d say it wasn’ worth it. But its about something more than that. Its about making sure no one ever tries to duplicate what he did in his first six and a half years. “  Read the rest.

Kudos for Sen. Reid.

Friday, July 20th, 2007

Great article in the WashPost today about Sen. Harry Reid.  In Sen. Reid, the Democrats finally have a counter weight to President Bush’s extreme obstinance.  When Republicans were moving toward a bipartisan ”compromise” on Reid’s amendment, he cut off debate — just as W. would have done.

Reid should compromise when George W. signals that he is finally willing to compromise.  Otherwise, Democrats need to continue to fight W’s fire with fire.  In Reid, Democrats may finally have a leader who finally (in the immortal words of Tom Petty) won’t back down.

Reid and Pelosi should turn up the heat on President W immediatley by opening an impeachment inquiry.  Impeachment should NOT be off the table.  If this President is faced with having his crimes exposed and finally being impeached for it, Reid and Pelosi may suddenly find him more amendable to change course in Iraq.

Impeachment movement continues to grow

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Another day, another call for impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.:

The National Impeachment Center has been formed to organize volunteers who are calling for impeachment.

The Telluride, CO town council has passed a resolution calling for Bush’s impeachment. West Hollywood, CA is considering such a resolution.

Letters to the editor nationwide are calling for impeacment. Here’s another one. And another. And another.

The rumblings for impeachment are becoming louder and louder. And while the left fringe is yelling loudest, more and more Americans are hearin the clamor, and agreeing with it.

The ever growing movement for Impeachment

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

The volume is being turned up on the movement to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney, President Bush, or both.

Activist Cindy Sheehan announced today that she is leading a march from Arlington to the office Capitol Hill Office of Congressman John Conyers to ask him to begin impeachment proceedings in a good old fashioned Vietnam-style sit in.

But its not just Sheehan who leads me to believe that impeachment has legs.  I hear it in the corner cafe from other disgruntled citizens who are increasingly fed up with, well… everything: a list would be too long at this point.  The 71% of Americans who do NOT approve of George Bush’s perfomance in office are starting to stir. I can feel it, and more importantly, I can now see it and hear it during my middle class day. Many may write off Sheehan as just a vocal “crazy liberal,” but I am convinced that the Impeachment Movement is real.  Capitol Hill, even Nancy Pelosi, has not understood this yet.  But Americas rising anger is very real and very strong.

Indeed, A public opinion poll from the American Research Group reported recently that 45% of Aericans favor impeachment hearings for President Bush and more than half  –54%– favored impeachment for Vice President Cheney.

When I hear it in the local cafe, in my conservative small town, it’s very real indeed.

An independent investigation should be opened into Cheney’s and Bush’s conduct in office. If crimes were committed, they need to be punished.  If not, they should be cleared. But either way, an independent investigation will serve America.

Bill Moyers took a look at the movement to Impeach; its a must view for any moderate liberal.

But today, even the Moderate Liberal will solidly join with “wacko” Sheehan to call on Congressman Conyers to open impeachment proceedings.

Congress awaits “snapshot” of the “beginning of the retooling” of Iraq Mission

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

The crap just continues to spew out of the Bush administration.

Said Tony Snow today:  “What Congress will get this week is a snapshot of the beginning of the retooling of the mission in Iraq.”

This is typical Bush administration doublespeak, and is as forthright and above board as this administration has ever been, or will ever be.

Thanks for the “snapshot” guys.

Libby Commutation defines the Bush II Legacy

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

There is nothing more that I can add to the outrage being expressed by 70% of the American people at the commutation of Libby’s sentence.

Did you really expect otherwise?  Did you truly believe that this ”president” and “vice president,” would allow one of their own to sit in prison for crimes committed?

This is par for the course for the worst American president, ever.  This is yet another “Katrina moment” for Bush.  This is more evidence of his disdain for rule of law and the American courts, and Congress, and the American people.

I know you guys think I’m “out there” when I say this because you can’t conceive that it could happen in America, but I’ll say it again: Bush has proven once again that dictatorship in America IS POSSIBLE, and that powers will be assumed by slow and deliberate means hastened by a terrorist threat. Don’t think that it can’t happen here — it is happening, and all the groundwork has been laid by this administration. 566 Days left in the Bush Presidency, that is, unless he decides to declare martial law and stay indefinitely.

Certainly, this commutation will define his legacy as one of contempt for America.
